Dr Alex Bielak is an internationally-recognised pioneer in Science Communication, and Knowledge Translation and Brokering related to the natural resources and water sectors. In the course of a distinguished and varied career, he has led a variety of award-winning initiatives and successful communications campaigns linking science with environmental policy development.
Since leaving public service, Alex founded his own consultancy known as ‘Alex Bielak Communications’ and is frequently asked to provide advice to government and other agencies, and to speak publicly on his areas of expertise.
Now an Associated Fellow, Alex was previously Senior Research Fellow and Knowledge Broker with the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health, and served as Senior Advisor to the chair of UN-Water. He also worked at senior levels for various NGOs and provincial and federal departments in Canada, and at the National Water Research Institute. Among other current appointments, he is a member of the Management Board of the Canadian Rivers Institute and, as an External Expert Member of the Advisory Board for the EU’s multi- partner MARINA project, he chaired the Board’s first meeting in Rome in 2016.
