Selection Process for New Applicants

Initial Shortlisting

Applications to our Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in AquaCulture, Environment and Society (EMJM ACES) will be checked to ensure they have been completed in accordance with the admissions criteria. Unfortunately, incomplete applications will not be considered. All eligible applications will then be independently assessed by at least two academics from the EMJM ACES team in accordance with the following criteria:

Interview of Shortlisted Candidates

The interview will last approximately 10-15 minutes and is designed to explore candidates’ motivation for higher degree study, their critical thinking skills and understanding of aquaculture-related issues. Candidates will also be able to ask questions about the EMJM ACES. The atmosphere is designed to be relaxed and informative.

Interviews will normally be conducted using Microsoft Teams software. Please ensure you have downloaded this application before interview.

Final selection

For Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Applicants:

The final ranking of applicants will be made by combining the scores from the paper applications (50%) with interview performance (50%). Candidates will be informed about their individual scores, whether they can be offered a place on the course and whether they are being recommended to the EACEA of the European Union for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

For Partial Scholarships and self-funding applicants: we will follow the same procedure above in the shortlisting and selection of candidates.

PLEASE NOTE

Without prejudice to high academic standards, in order to ensure a geographical diversity amongst students, the EMJMD ACES STAR selection committee have to respect the following basic criteria when selecting students for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. No more than six students selected for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship over the whole programme should have the same nationality. Without prejudice to the scientific excellence, the consortium will also adjust for equitable and balanced gender participation.
